Speaking and Events

Romina Garber is a captivating and engaging speaker with an uncanny ability to quickly develop a connection with her audience, from one individual reader to a room of 100 people. She was the featured author of Saint Paul Public Library's Read Brave program, an annual citywide book club. Through the lens of her book, she engaged in and led public conversation with residents, including high school students, about immigration and belonging during the Twin Cities' federal immigration enforcement surge with skill, bravery, and compassion.

Not all great writers are also great speakers, but Romina is. She radiates warmth and approachability, and I was so impressed by her ability to speak on nuanced and charged topics to a diverse college audience with a mix of sharp analysis, grounding humor, and emotional honesty. Her book talk was many participants’ favorite Penn event of the year.

I walked away from the event feeling inspired by Garber’s work, specifically her ability to leverage creativity as a means for education, empowerment, and connection. Through attending the book talk, I learned that creating meaningful dialogue means cultivating spaces with care.

Romina Garber is a simply amazing person, writer, and most importantly, teacher. She gave me inspiration and truly unlocked my full potential as a writer. I know I’m going to be successful after being lucky enough to meet a person so well versed in the art of writing. She’s simply the best. ;)

I had my workshop with Romina, and she is just a wonderful person and such an admirable writer and woman. She was so understanding with me and my questions about my English because I’m Latin.

Romina was super nice and really helpful! In our cabin, she encouraged us to write, not just talk endlessly, and advised us by editing our work and telling us where we could improve and where our ideas could deepen or become more relevant. She didn’t treat me like a silly child, but like someone who genuinely wanted to write, and it was really nice to be taken seriously.
